Our biggest ever cheque: £57m for Children in Need!

Anyone who has ordered one of our giant cheques will know how big they are. They are the largest presentation cheques available on the web in the UK. But here is one that is not only big, but for a BIG amount for one of the country’s leading charities: Children in Need.

This whopper was featured on BBC Breakfast and represented the sum of £57,119,501 – the total raised for the Children in Need 2020 Appeal. The massive amount was the culmination of the efforts of fundraisers and donors across the UK who supported the annual Appeal in November 2020. The feat was all the more remarkable as it happened in a pandemic that affected everybody.

We are enormously pleased and proud to see a photocutouts.co.uk giant cheque being presented for such a vital charity.

Here is footage from the live BBC Breakfast broadcast where the cheque was unveiled by Children in Need representatives and Matty, who receives care at Rainbow Hospice and said the donations help children like him to thrive.

A full-hearted Thank You from the BBC Children in Need Appeal.

Below is a post from our blog earlier this year about our giant cheques in the context of prizegiving ceremonies. The same applies to charity cheques when it is desirable to make a big impression.

The biggest cheque we make is 200 x 100 cm, which as far as we are aware is the largest presentation cheque available online in the UK today. We try to cater for all needs, though, with a range of three sizes: Mini (100cm x 50cm), Maxi (150cm x 75cm) and Mega (200cm x 100cm).

Keep Scotland Beautiful use Photo Cutouts for awareness campaign

We were asked recently to create a dual-purpose face in hole board for an anti-littering campaign by Keep Scotland Beautiful. In preparation for the beach season, it is being used in partnership with ScotRail to raise public awareness of the damage done by littering and to encourage people to bin their litter or take it home.

Our board is mainly used in high footfall areas of Glasgow Central Station as part of the public awareness campaign. The aim is to catch travellers on their way to the beach and give them a robust reminder to tidy up after themselves. The tone is light-hearted and cheerful, and somewhat less litter-shaming than Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Don’t be a tosser’ litter campaign.

Keep Scotland Beautiful Awareness Campaign

Litter awareness board

Dual-purpose branded signage

This freestanding photo board was a first for Photo Cutouts. The client asked for the face holes in the cutout to be optional. We call this a dual-purpose board because the face ovals are cut out but can also fit back in and blend in for when it is not being used as a face in hole board. The eye-catching artwork serves as both an interactive photo cutout but also as information/backdrop signage.

The campaign also includes a beach cleaning station where the public can take pickers and bags and have a clean-up on the beach, under the #mybeachyourbeach social media hashtag. Travellers are reminded at multiple points about their public duty to clear up after themselves and leave the beaches clean for others.

Beach litter cleaning station

We developed the board in collaboration with the customer to get the artwork and logos just right. It stands on sturdy metal legs so that even a Glasgow breeze and high footfall won’t tip it over. Everybody going through Glasgow Central Station will have seen the board, the plastic bottle mascot, and a team of volunteers brandishing litter pickers. This is a powerful way to convey a message in a public campaign. The board makes it immediately clear what the campaign is about.

Keep Scotland Beautiful also have a stand near the beach where they encourage people to join and raise funds for the charity.

Great North Swim features WaterAid board

Great North Swim charity photo board

Our photo boards feature at all kinds of charity and public awareness events. With imaginative, attention-grabbing designs and high quality print, they add a touch of professionalism to campaigns and project memorable messages. The public love to engage with them and take photos – and this is proven to increase brand familiarity and keep the organisation’s name top of mind during and after events. WaterAid are a charity who promote clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene for the world’s populations – and the Great North Swim is an ideal place for them to raise awareness of their work as they raise funds thanks to the efforts of a lot of hardy and charitable open water swimmers.

This year’s Great North Swim took place on Lake Windermere from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th of June. As the Great North Swim’s official Charity, WaterAid needed to make a big splash, so they commissioned a photo cutout board from photocutouts.co.uk to display at the event and draw in the public’s attention. Here’s the board in action next to WaterAid’s stand. Our artist went for a cartoony style for this board which the customer loved. Hopefully there weren’t actually any piranhas in Lake Windermere that day!

WaterAid are going to use this board at future events too – so having a custom board from us is great value for them. We also make folding versions for easy transportation and storage, but WaterAid went for a non-folding model because they have somewhere to stash a full sized board until the next time they need it.

Photocutouts.co.uk are the leading supplier of face in hole photo cutout boards in the UK and a significant proportion of our customers are charities and organisations seeking to promote public awareness. Photo cutout boards are a proven way to achieve that goal. We work with the customer until they are happy with the design and then print it in high quality, attach it to semi-rigid PVC board, add a sturdy frame and ship it out to the customer within 5 working days.

G7 Summit board grabs attention

The Summer campaign trail is heating up and we are proud to be contributing to the awareness-raising efforts of some leading charities. Our face in hole boards, selfie boards, photo walls and branding props are a proven way to attract attention at public events. Charities use our custom products year after year, either with a new one each year or a reusable one to bring out time after time.

Action Aid decided to use a custom face in hole board at the recent G7 Summit in Cornwall. The one-off design featured Joe Biden, Angela Merkel and Boris Johnson and it was used alongside a specially commissioned ice cream van giving away free ice creams with wafers that had various messages on to do with vaccines, climate and other pressing issues. Maybe the global leaders saw it and decided to rethink some of their policies – who knows? What is certain is that it helped to raise awareness among the general public at the G7 and sent a loud and clear message.

We serve the charity and public awareness sectors with colourful, fun, attention-grabbing face in hole boards that encourage participation from the public and help to get the message across. Face in hole boards, selfie boards and photo walls are fantastic engagement tools at public events because people can’t resist getting their faces in them and taking photos. The photos usually make it onto social media, which helps to spread the message even further. We use artwork supplied by the organisation and/or use our own in-house artists to design a bespoke board that sends a loud and clear message. Here are some more examples of our work with organisations running awareness campaigns.

If you are organising events like the above and want to find out more about our custom-made products, call us on 01842 337 100 or send us an email and we’ll get straight back.

Boost postponed events in 2021!

One of the Photocutouts.co.uk team has just completed a fundraising walk for a local charity. Like many such events it was originally scheduled for 2020 but then COVID forced it to be postponed to 2021. The organisers were hugely relieved to be back running the event and raising money, and David was hugely relieved to get over the finish line!

2021 rescheduled events

As we emerge from lockdown and rules are eased, there will be a great number of events taking place this year that were postponed from last year. Charities can resume their events, sports crowds are gradually coming back, business gatherings can start to be face to face again, and exhibitions can start again where they left off last year.

This is great news for everybody, and they will quite likely be looking to give their events an extra boost to make up for what was missed out on last year. One way of getting that boost is to add some extra visual elements to the event and to the publicity surrounding it. Get the public interacting and there should be a healthy increase in attendance and engagement.

This is what we do best. Our face in hole boards are always a big hit because they invite people to interact and take photos. That grows brand awareness and helps it to stay top of mind. The photos often end up in local and trade media, too, which again gives the event a boost. We supply these memorable visual aids to all sizes of event, from household names to small local happenings.

We’ve been listening to customers for over a decade and created a variety of options that should suit any type of event.

Jumbo cheques for prize givings

Have you ever wondered who makes the jumbo cheques that people pose with for photos at big prize givings? Well, it’s us!

Jumbo cheques printed

We design them ourselves, or we use artwork that the prize-giving company send us. Then we print them in high resolution onto PVC board. This material is lightweight but stiff and weatherproof. No floppy cardboard cheques here. We produce the jumbo cheques as quickly as possible so as not to miss the prize giving ceremony, and ship them out to wherever they are needed.

We can make one-off jumbo cheques that are permanently printed with the prize amount. Alternatively we can print re-usable ones that have the amount area left blank. It can be filled in with whiteboard marker by hand, then wiped clean and used at the next event.

Here’s an example of a company using our jumbo cheques. BOTB are famous for their supercar competitions where players enter a spot the ball competition to win a highly desirable car and a cash prize. They publish the name and photo of each winner after each competition has been judged. In this example the lucky winner was Kashif Mumtaz. He was unable to travel to receive his cheque due to COVID, but there it is in the photo alongside the car he won.

Jumbo cheques prize giving

Another Jumbo cheque example is one we made for Omaze, whose Million Pound House Draw supports charitable causes. In this case the cheque is for a £250,000 donation to Teenage Cancer Trust. As you can see, the cheque is huge but the recipient is not struggling to hold it up because it is made of lightweight PVC board.

5 examples of public awareness campaigns with photo cutout boards

Getting people into awareness campaigns – literally!

Many of public awareness campaigns by causes, nonprofits and social enterprises have used our photo cutout boards. They make a great engagement tool to educate their audiences and help keep their campaign messages top of mind. The boards help to create a focus for people to interact with as well as a photo opportunity, and with the campaign’s message and hashtag splashed all over the board, well … photos get shared, and that amplifies the message across social.
Here are five examples of the public awareness campaign boards we have supplied.

1. #FFSLDN

For Fish’s Sake London was a campaign by environmental charity Hubbub. The message is clear: don’t drop litter in London where it can end up in the Thames, because it really gives aquatic life there a hard time. These boards have been used down by the river to promote awareness.

2. #Beesneeds

#BeesNeeds is a campaign by DEFRA and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to promote awareness of bees and other pollinators. London’s Carnaby Street was renamed Carnabee Street for a week and our board was part of the campaign.

3. Affinity Water

Here’s a slightly grainy shot from Twitter – but you can see people having fun with the board! The campaign message? Save water.

4. Keep Britain Tidy

This one needs no introduction. These boards are used extensively in campaigns around the UK. The message: be a litter hero. Be like Trash Girl.

Theme of the Week: Animals!

Animals

Looking back at the photo cutouts we’ve made, we’ve realised that they often feature animals. The reasons for this are as varied as our clients, but it seems that many charities, brands and products have chosen to feature animals in their photo cutouts. It’s the same in advertising. Think how many brands have an animal as their mascot. So this week we’re featuring our animal friends. Welcome to the Photo Cutouts zoo!

Horses

A four-legged friend will never let you down – and neither will we! Here are some equine boards from the last year or two.

Environment charities using our boards

World Environment Day 2018

Today is the 5th of June and it’s World Environment Day, the United Nations’ flagship day for promoting worldwide awareness and action for the environment. There’s probably something going on near you related to #WorldEnvironmentDay, whether it’s a beach cleanup, a tree planting day or a group of people getting together to lobby your MP for change. Today is the day to get involved and make an impact. If you’re at work and can’t ‘get out there’ and do anything, actually the workplace is a great place to start. How much disposable plastic does your business get through, for example, and how much does it really need to? Do something to close the gap. The motto here is ‘If you can’t reuse it, refuse it.’ Share a photo of your effort on social media to inspire others. There’s even an app to help you organise a cleanup called Litterati – see what they did there? There are plenty of other ideas and resources over at the World Environment Day website.

Here are some of the face in the hole boards Photo Cutouts have made recently to help promote environmental campaigns. Most of them are simple, straightforward awareness-raising props that ask people to pick up litter and not leave it lying around where it can hurt wildlife and make our surroundings look depressing.

Keep Britain Tidy

Littering environment Keep Britain Tidy

This well-known charity needs no introduction. They chose Photo Cutouts to make a set of three boards to promote their campaigns in early 2018. Here’s the design for one of them:

Keep Britain Tidy marketing board

Keep Britain Tidy also commissioned some Blue Flag boards to promote clean beaches. Blue Flag is managed by Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education. Here’s one of the Blue Flag boards in action:

Blue Flag clean beach award

World Animal Protection

#SeaChange #ghost fishing environment

Ghost fishing is what happens when fishing gear from trawlers and other fishing operations gets lost or abandoned at sea. It creates havoc for sea life. We’ve all seen images of sea creatures tangled in nets – well, that’s ghost fishing. World Animal Protection campaigns against it as part of the #SeaChange movement.

Hubbub

Environmental charity Hubbub have used Photo Cutouts for several of their awareness-raining campaigns.

Environment littering London Thames Hubbub

For Fish’s Sake London is a campaign by Hubbub. It raises awareness about littering, particularly in and around London, where plastic and other pollutants end up in the Thames and have adverse effects on fish. We made some boards for this campaign which aim to educate the public about littering.

And here’s a board for another of Hubbub’s campaigns. This one is about saving water.

Hubbub save water campaign

We’re proud to be helping these charities to promote their messages using our face in the hole boards! And remember: don’t drop litter!
