So how many of you girls have popped the question on Leap Year Day, the 29th of February? Traditionally, February 29 was the day on which a woman could ask a man to marry her. Now, of course, we live in 2020 and a girl can propose if she wants any time she wants. But just out of curiosity, how many of you took up the tradition? And what was his response? Did he burst into tears with happiness or dance with you? Do let us know in the comments if you took advantage of the Leap Year tradition and have a story to tell.
Weddings season is in full swing here at Photocutouts.co.uk HQ and we all love a good wedding celebration!
Wedding Photo Cutout boards
Whether your wedding is a big garden tea party or you have a themed event, we can help with a photo board to fit the occasion. Everyone remembers poking their head through one of these boards at the seaside to have their photo taken. The tradition is still alive and kicking, indeed it’s undergoing a revival. Photo cutout boards are good, wholesome fun and are what you make of them. Photos of you, the happy couple with your faces in a cutout board are a great way to preserve the memory of the big day.
If you are busy looking for vintage props for your Summer wedding, we love Virginia’s Vintage Hire, who have gorgeous things like classic scooters and rustic furniture for you to hire. We also love the retro candy floss carts from So Sweet Events. They really bring a touch – and taste – of sunlit seaside days to your wedding party.

Here’s how the lucky winner of a wedding photo cutout board used it at her wedding, with photos kindly provided by her.
In January 2017 whilst planning her December wedding, Lucy Bevan visited the Newmarket Wedding Show and and was lucky enough to win in the competition run by the organisers.
Imagine her surprise and delight when she was drawn to win a photo cutout board by us for her big day! She chose the gently humorous ‘Ball and Chain’ board and it got plenty of use at the reception, held at the beautiful Barrington Hall and overseen by wedding coordinator Vanessa from Rocks and Frocks. The wedding photographer Daniela K Photography included the board in a number of artful shots.
Guests took photos of the couple posing in the face in hole board and shared them on social media.
Here’s what Lucy had to say to us about the board hire from Photo Cutouts and our service for the special day:
Glad you liked the pics. So we are now Mr and Mrs Aveston-Viner.
We found the vendors really helpful at the wedding show, along with you guys we also booked our suits and the chair covers in with vendors we saw at the show.
We had the chapel hill duo play the violin and cello for us in the church along with the choir and red double decker bus take our guest too and from the church. In the evening we had our bridesmaid, Jenny Warnes, sing our first dance followed by 3 more songs, then a DJ from Pro Event Hire play for the rest of the evening.
I found you guys extremely helpful, you replied to my email straight away and organised everything with the wedding planner, I didn’t have to do anything! The board was delivered and collected without any problems at all. It was there ready the day before which gave us plenty of time to decide where we wanted it and to have a go in it first!
Would definitely use you again for other events and loved the garden games you also do, if ours had been a summer wedding we would have had the golf going on!
Married life is going great! We got married on our 11th year anniversary so was lovely to finally tie the knot and have the amazing wedding we ( I ) had dreamed about.”
So thank you Lucy for sharing your wedding photos with us! We wish you every happiness for the future as Mrs Aveston-Viner!
Lucy chose one of the boards from our wedding collection. We also make custom photo cutout boards that are personalised with the names of the bride and groom and can carry any special message you want to communicate to guests.
We’ve had a fun last couple of months doing the rounds of wedding fairs in East Anglia where we’re based. Brides and grooms are gearing up for their 2017 weddings and looking for ways to entertain their guests at the celebrations. Our face in hole boards are just as popular as ever. But now we’ve expanded our range of entertainment with a set of pick and mix wedding games and activities that allow you to create your own perfect wedding party by choosing a selection of games.
There’s minigolf, the king of wedding games. It’s a fun activity for all ages to have a go at. It’s getting more popular than ever because it’s challenging enough for a bit of a competition but is always simple fun, no matter how seriously you want to take it!
And now there’s a choice of wedding games you can set out around your wedding party so that everywhere they look, guests have something fun to do! Giant wooden games include Giant Jenga, Giant Dominoes, Giant Noughts and Crosses and Giant Four-in-a-row. Traditional garden games include skittles, and croquet. Guests are delighted when they discover all these things to do, and young and old alike can just enjoy the party and be a bit competitive too if they feel like it.
Ping pong is always a welcome surprise at parties. Our equipment is tournament quality and in top condition, so any missed slices and smashes are your guests’ fault, not our equipment’s!
And for something really different, this is our face in hole portrait gallery – a fantastic addition to your party. It can even feature in your wedding photo shoot! This one is really special and involves your guests in something completely different. It is guaranteed to create unforgettable photo memories.

2017 is now getting into its stride as we head into wedding fair season. If you are planning a wedding for this year, now is the time to head to your nearest wedding fair for wedding planning inspiration. When it comes to the vital question of photography, have you considered adding an extra element of fun to it for couple and guests alike? Maybe a little more than the usual or predictable?
We have the answer. Wedding photo cutouts are about as much fun as it’s possible to have (in public!) with a camera. Photocutouts.co.uk will be at quite a few wedding fairs in the first quarter of 2017, but we can’t attend them all, so here is a taste of the fun that face in hole boards can bring to your wedding.
Nobody can resist them. Long after the bride and groom have posed for their memorable photos, guests will be trying it themselves. We make a range of traditional wedding-themes face in the hole boards to hire or buy, such as Shotgun Wedding, Ball and Chain, Over The Theshold, Father Of The Bride and Bouquet Bundle. See the whole range here.
Off-the-peg or custom made
All out photo cutout boards are made in-house by our team of skilled designers and carpenters. We specialise in making bespoke face in the hole boards as well as the regular range, and we love creating individualised, one-off custom boards. You can give us an idea for a design or just tell us about the bride and groom or send us photos of them, and we’ll do a draft design for you. We work with you until you are absolutely happy with it, then print the design in full-colour high resolution onto weatherproof, durable, lightweight foamex PVC board and ship it out to you in good time for the big day.
A custom board can be personalised in any way you want to make it unique and memorable. Here’s a little video about how we make them.
So if you are doing your wedding planning, we hope to see you at a wedding fair near you soon. If we don’t run into you, give us a call on 08450 570 321 or email email@example.com to ask about an off-the-peg or custom photo cutout board or two to create great photo memories of your wedding.
Add some interactive fun to your next trade event with a wedding-themed face in hole board from photocutouts.co.uk.
Evolution Discos did just that when they attended the Fling Festival in Chelmsford, and these were the results! They told us they did more business when they used one of our boards.
All you have to do is ask us to put your logo and/or web address, social media handle, etc., on the board, and it gets shared when someone shares the photo with their friends on social media! And they do share them.
Ever since the portable camera was invented, people have loved to take photos of each other. In more recent times, people seem to prefer taking photos of themselves – the selfie craze. But this phenomenon didn’t start with the smartphone and its front-facing camera. Photobooths have been around for a while in shops, supermarkets and department stores. In the 1980s they were mechanical photo development labs that took 10 minutes to process your passport photos. Are you old enough to remember those?
Even then people used them for silly pictures of themselves and friends. Photobooths – in a modern digital format, of course – are now making a comeback at weddings and events, and come with a box of silly props like moustaches, wigs and big glasses. They cost around £500 to hire for a few hours. But why not be different, and spend less? For a lot less than £500 (call Shelley on 08450 570321 for prices or see our site), you can hire a gorgeous traditional photo cutout board that is even more fun. Everybody has a smartphone, so within seconds photos of fun-loving wedding guests can be winging their way around social media for the enjoyment of friends and family. What’s not to like about this, for example?
The BBC has been reporting this week on the fall and rise of the photobooth and they have even had a section on You & Yours on Radio 4. The flat-pack, pop-up booths are all the rage at weddings. But if you want to dare to be different, and have something at the wedding that harks back to our traditional seaside, why not order a photo cutout board from our range or have one custom-made with the bride and groom’s names on it, and to any design you like?
Here’s a bit about our process of making a custom photo cutout board to order. Do you have an idea for your very own design? Call us and we’ll talk it through with you!
For some reason people find it really funny when someone else sticks their face through a picture. For the origins of the phenomenon, find out more about the history of the photo cutout board. But it doesn’t really matter why it works – it just does. Photo boards add guaranteed fun to all types of events. But which sorts of events are most popular? Here are the main types of event where our photo cutout boards are used:
Marketing events / product promotions. A face-in-hole board truly gives a product or service a face, and the interactive nature of the boards mean people play around with them and literally ‘get into’ the brand (which is splashed all over the board). Companies who have used our boards to great effect at marketing and promotional events include Tilda Rice and Autoglass. Here are those two examples:
Weddings. Maybe it’s the traditional, saucy nature of photo cutout boards that fits in so well at weddings. Of course the happy couple will pose with their faces in through the holes, but everybody else, young and old, can have a go too. As the wedding party snaps away with their cameras and phones, the board provides a focus and is sure to create wonderful photo memories. See our wedding range here.
Seasonal events. Christmas, Easter and Halloween are prime time for parties and events, and we have boards for all three. Customers can hire from our seasonal ranges or have us make a custom board specially for them. Add some interactive Santa, bunny or vampire fun to your seasonal event!
Charity fundraising events. We have made custom boards for many charities, who find that they create a healthy buzz at their fundraising events. The board represents the charity and carries the name, web address and social media hashtags if desired, so that when people share their photos of each other grinning or grimacing through the face holes, the charity name, website and social sharing info are plain to see. And people donate more when they are laughing! Here’s a recent one:
Any other type of event! Birthday parties, book launches, store openings, sports matches – a photo cutout board will brighten any event and help to make it memorable.

Winter is such a magical time of year, and what better time to tie the knot? You’ll have a cool walk down the aisle without a bead of sweat in sight, and just think of snuggling up by the fire together after your magical winter wedding.
You can really get creative with a winter wedding. Wear a dress that looks like something Elsa would wear in Frozen. Use sparklers instead of confetti. Fill the reception hall with tealights, fairy lights and candles. Our warmly humorous wedding-themed photo boards add a special touch of fun to your special day. Just poke your heads through and let your guests snap away to create memories. We can create bespoke boards for you with your names on and extra decoration. If you let us know your requirements well in advance we will custom-make one for you just the way you ask.
A Photo cutout is a great way to keep your wedding guests’ little ones amused. Give them a camera and let them take turns photographing each other with their heads stuck through the holes. It’s simple, wholesome fun that people of all ages never seem to get tired of.
The best combination of fun activities at a wedding is a minigolf course and a photo cutout board or two. Minigolf keeps young ones squealing with fun so the grownups can socialise in peace. Your guests will be eternally grateful for giving the little ones something to do.
And of course have a go yourselves! Everybody can chip in … or putt in.
