Big cheques made to your specifications

We’re always going on about our face in the hole boards, but don’t forget we also make big cheques for a range of events. They are bigger than competitors’ cheques and can be single-use printed or dry-wipe for multiple use! They are made out of the same material as our face-in-the-hole boards and stand-up props: waterproof, lightweight, weather-resistant PVC foamex board. No floppy, soggy cardboard cheques here!

Big cheques uk
Now THAT’s a giant cheque!

Photo Cutouts big cheques come in three sizes: Small (100cm x 50cm), Medium (150cm x 75 cm) and Large (200cm x 100cm). We could make a custom cheque for you that’s bigger or smaller, but these are our standard sizes and are the quickest to order. Call us for the current turnaround time. It’s always only a few days, but the number of days can vary at different times of year depending on demand. Whatever happens, we’ll get your giant cheque out to you as quickly as we possibly can, and agree on a delivery date before you place your order.

We print them up with any logos, names, web addresses and hashtags the customer requests and ship them out quickly in time for your presentation event. We aim to provide the best quality and value giant cheques available in the UK.

Big cheques sizesOur big cheques really make a splash as a photo opportunity at a variety of events. Charity donations from companies, fundraising presentations, sports league prize presentations (snooker, darts, racing, etc.), big bingo wins, birthday cheques, wedding gift presentations, corporate awards, and any event where the focus is on money being given or received. They are light enough to hand around  from one person to the next for photos is it’s a team event – in fact the biggest one is big enough for several people to hold at once, so a small team can get behind it for photos.

5 examples of public awareness campaigns with photo cutout boards

Getting people into awareness campaigns – literally!

It’s been a hot year so far for public awareness campaigns by causes, nonprofits and social enterprises.
Many of these campaigns have used our face in the hole boards to educate their audiences and help keep their campaign messages top of mind. The boards help to create a focus for people to interact with as well as a photo opportunity, and with the campaign’s message and hashtag splashed all over the board, well … photos get shared, and that amplifies the message across social.
Here are five examples of the public awareness campaign boards we have supplied recently.

1. #FFSLDN

For Fish’s Sake London is a campaign by environmental charity Hubbub. The message is clear: don’t drop litter in London where it can end up in the Thames, because it really gives aquatic life there a hard time. These boards have been used down by the river to promote awareness.

2. #Beesneeds

This was just last week. #BeesNeeds is a campaign by DEFRA and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to promote awareness of bees and other pollinators. London’s Carnaby Street was renamed Carnabee Street for a week and our board was part of the campaign.

3. Affinity Water

Okay, this one was last November, but we’ve included it because we liked it! Here’s a slightly grainy shot from Twitter – but you can see people having fun with the board! The campaign message? Save water.

4. Keep Britain Tidy

This one needs no introduction. These boards are used extensively in campaigns around the UK. The message: be a litter hero. Be like Trash Girl.

5. Green Flag Wales

On a related note, here’s our board for Green Flag Wales, aiming to change perceptions about green spaces. The board is pictured with some of the campaign team.

World Environment Day 2018

Today is the 5th of June and it’s World Environment Day, the United Nations’ flagship day for promoting worldwide awareness and action for the environment. There’s probably something going on near you related to #WorldEnvironmentDay, whether it’s a beach cleanup, a tree planting day or a group of people getting together to lobby your MP for change. Today is the day to get involved and make an impact. If you’re at work and can’t ‘get out there’ and do anything, actually the workplace is a great place to start. How much disposable plastic does your business get through, for example, and how much does it really need to? Do something to close the gap. The motto here is ‘If you can’t reuse it, refuse it.’ Share a photo of your effort on social media to inspire others. There’s even an app to help you organise a cleanup called Litterati – see what they did there? There are plenty of other ideas and resources over at the World Environment Day website.

Here are some of the face in the hole boards Photo Cutouts have made recently to help promote environmental campaigns. Most of them are simple, straightforward awareness-raising props that ask people to pick up litter and not leave it lying around where it can hurt wildlife and make our surroundings look depressing.

Keep Britain Tidy

Littering environment Keep Britain Tidy

This well-known charity needs no introduction. They chose Photo Cutouts to make a set of three boards to promote their campaigns in early 2018. Here’s the design for one of them:

Keep Britain Tidy marketing board

Keep Britain Tidy also commissioned some Blue Flag boards to promote clean beaches. Blue Flag is managed by Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education. Here’s one of the Blue Flag boards in action:

World Animal Protection

#SeaChange #ghost fishing environment

Ghost fishing is what happens when fishing gear from trawlers and other fishing operations gets lost or abandoned at sea. It creates havoc for sea life. We’ve all seen images of sea creatures tangled in nets – well, that’s ghost fishing. World Animal Protection campaigns against it as part of the #SeaChange movement.

Hubbub

Environmental charity Hubbub have used Photo Cutouts for several of their awareness-raining campaigns.

Environment littering London Thames Hubbub

For Fish’s Sake London is a campaign by Hubbub. It raises awareness about littering, particularly in and around London, where plastic and other pollutants end up in the Thames and have adverse effects on fish. We made some boards for this campaign which aim to educate the public about littering.

And here’s a board for another of Hubbub’s campaigns. This one is about saving water.

We’re proud to be helping these charities to promote their messages using our face in the hole boards! And remember: don’t drop litter!

Theme of the week: Healthcare

There’s a theme developing this week …

We serve all industries that need face in the hole boards and marketing props for their events. But some weeks, there seems to be a theme. This week it’s healthcare. Three of the boards we’ve sent out this week have been healthcare-related: two major cancer charities and NHS Wales! There’s probably no rhyme or reason to it (like the time we got three requests for boards featuring horses in the same month), and all we can say is we’re happy to be providing the service and helping these great organisations promote their message.

Macmillan Volunteer Conference

Macmillan Cancer Support relies on a network of volunteers to provide support to those with cancer, and once a year the charity holds a Volunteer Conference for networking, volunteer awards, volunteer support and development opportunities. This year’s conference was on the 17th & 18th of May in Blackpool, and Photo Cutouts delivered some traditional face in the hole boards for a bit of extra fun for the delegates.

The boards obviously did their job!

NHS Wales

This is a general purpose board for NHS Wales that they are going to use at a variety of events and locations. It’s a folding board, which means it can be carried about easily and even transported in a small car to wherever it is needed. Perfect for a mobile awareness message!

NHS Wales healthcare board

Cancer Research

Cancer research are doing a roadshow in Scotland, and one of the props they’ll be using is a pair boards that let the public step into the shoes of a cancer-busting super scientist. Lord knows we need these people, so promoting their efforts is one thing we have absolutely no problem helping with.

Photo cutout boards for healthcare charitiesWe’ll blog about it again next time there is a series of orders for boards from a particular sector or industry or cause. PhotoCutouts sponsor UK Charity Week!

UK charity week starts on the 4th of December

UK Charity Week 2017
The Photo Cutouts team are proud to be sponsoring UK Charity Week 2017!

People are statistically at their most generous at the beginning of December, as thoughts of Christmas gift-giving enter their heads and wallets tend to open wider. That’s why UK Charity Week is held during the first week of December every year.

UK Charity Week charities we have worked with
Some of the UK charities we have worked with

After a very successful year providing the UK’s charities with the bespoke fundraising face in the hole boards we’re so good at, we thought we’d give something back. So Photo Cutouts are an official Corporate Sponsor of UK Charity Week! Here we are on their Corporate Friends page.

We have added two new products in our range designed for supporting charity fundraising efforts. They are so good at that, we’ve put them on their own page on our website, which we’re calling Charity Toolkit.

In addition to the classic face in the hole boards, fundraisers can now use our charity cheques and speech bubbles.

giant charity cheques
The big cheques come in three sizes and can be ordered wipe-clean (re-usable) or permanent (single use). The one in this photo is the smallest!

The big cheques help fundraisers make a memorable splash when they present their funds to their chosen charity. We offer a full in-house design service and can achieve a turnaround time of under a week. A wipe-clean big cheque can be used again and again, just changing the amount raised with a whiteboard marker.

Hand held speech bubbles

Our hand-held speech bubbles are good for photos at charity presentations and can be used in so many different ways. They can be dry-wipe like the cheques if required, for an infinity of possible messages. They come in a set of 6 in different shapes and are great for adding extra messages to charity presentation photos and encouraging others to give as well.

Corporate sponsors of UK charity week 2017
What will you be doing for #UKCharityWeek?

So we’re looking forward to #UKCharityWeek, and we’re going to donate £5 to Mencap for every big cheque, set of speech bubbles and photo cutout boards we sell.

Water saving with photo cutout boards!

Board of the week: Affinity Water

Affinity Water photo cutout for marketing and public engagement

We have been working with green campaigners Hubbub for quite a while now and have produced 7 different board designs for them, including the #FFSLdn (For Fish’s Sake, London) campaign to stop littering in the Thames and help fish get on with their lives without having to deal with so much dangerous plastic and other waste that people tip down the drains and thence into the river.

This week they asked us for a board to raise awareness of water wastage for water supplier Affinity Water. Pretty cool isn’t it?

As you can see in the picture above, taken from Twitter, photo boards form a good basis for social media awareness campaigns because they are so visual and people participate readily by putting their faces in the board and snapping and sharing photos. We are happy to be helping Hubbub again in raising awareness of environmental issues.

We also make boards for a number of UK charities, including Sense, Dogs Trust, RSPCA, World Animal Protection, Poppy Scotland and the Penny Appeal.

It’s on every fundraiser’s wish list to get as much engagement with the public as possible, and custom-designed face in the hole boards are just the ticket. We add the organisation’s logo, images, hashtags, URLs, phone numbers and any other insignia they request to help their campaigns.

When people take photos and share them on social media sites like Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook, the campaign’s logo and message is carried around the web, further increasing awareness and engagement.

This particular board is part of Affinity Water’s campaign to inform people about how they might be wasting water because of a leaky loo, a wasteful flush, and things like leaving the tap running while brushing their teeth. We all do something to waste water, don’t we?

Photo Cutouts are proud to be supporting this campaign and getting its message out in public and on the web.

Crufts season: helping marketing for dogs charity

rehoming dogs, charity, crufts, face in hole board, photo cutout board, fundraising

With Crufts coming up this weekend, the nation’s thoughts are with man’s best friend. The world’s biggest dog show will be on our screens showcasing the finest and best-groomed dogs in the country.

It’s the perfect time to also spare a thought for the dogs who are not in the limelight and who are down on their luck. Charity organisations like the Dogs Trust take homeless dogs in, take care of them and find them new homes.

PhotoCutouts are proud to have worked with the Dogs Trust for the last two years to create promotional materials for the charity. Our photo cutout boards have helped in their fundraising efforts around the country. Here’s a glimpse into how we worked with the lovely folks at the Dogs Trust to create their photo cutout boards.

First our artists did a concept sketch based on ideas from the charity’s marketing manager. From the start we included the organisation’s logo and gave their hashtags a prominent position on the board.

Crufts, dogs, charity, rehoming

This went through a couple more stages with amendments to minor details. Then our designer added colour and made a few more tweaks to produce the final board which the charity approved and accepted.

charity marketing board dogs trust crufts

We printed the design in high resolution onto weatherproof, durable foamex PVC boards, cut out the face holes and added wide, stable feet to stop the boards getting blown over in the wind. These features are standard on all our boards.

We also made some roll-up banners with the same design. These are great for carrying around and unrolling wherever they are needed. They come with lightweight telescopic stands that are easily transportable and can be set up in moments. Here’s a roll-up banner in action.

Using a photo board to support a cause

Some lucky kids will be getting smartphones and tablets for Christmas. It’s essential to teach young people to be safe online, so they can enjoy their childhoods and also to help them build an online identity that does not come back to bite them when they are older. We are proud to be supporting a cause that promotes internet safety for young people.

Internetmatters, org is a not-for-profit organisation backed by leading internet providers BT, Virgin Media, Sky and TalkTalk that provides advice on e-safety issues.

They are running a Christmas campaign to help children stay safe when they are sharing Christmas messages on social media. As part of the campaign they commissioned two photo cutout boards from us bearing the campaign hashtag #ChristmasSharing.

Internet safety campaign cause
One of the boards in use at a campaign event at TalkTalk

The Santa & Elf and Snowman & Gingerbread boards were a hit because few people can resist the urge to put their faces in the holes and have their friends take and share photos.

A good cause: Christmas internet safety campaign
When a photo gets shared, the hashtag gets shared too.

The boards prominently display the hashtag and the web address of the organisation, which raises awareness of the campaign. For example, you have seen it now, so you are aware of the campaign. That’s how internet sharing works!

These boards have really created a buzz, and now more parents know where to go for advice on how to keep their children safe online.

Kids can be hurt by seeing inappropriate content, posting embarrassing selfies on photo sharing sites, cyberbullying, grooming, gaming with strangers and sharing too much personal information online. The digital world is a jungle, and nobody should let their kids enter it without the best possible advice on staying safe. We are proud to have contributed to internetmatters.org’s campaign.

Photo cutout boards are proven to be effective for promoting a cause or charity campaign. To order one or more for your campaign, call 08450 570 321 or email office@connectedshopping.com.

How to use a hashtag on your photo cutout board

hashtag, photo cutout board
One of our customers using hashtags on their photo cutout board

Are you planning social media for your event? Then you’ll need a branded hashtag that shows the world your event, cause or message. In the above example, the Dogs Trust used #SponsorADog, which gets their intentions across well. They also linked it to something larger with #DigMyPhoto, which is a hashtag used for photo sharing. So the two hashtags together both showed people where to find out more about their cause, and helped to spread the message.

Good use of hashtags can create real momentum for your event or campaign. So how do you go about creating the most effective branded hashtag possible?

Keep it short. Hashtags with ten characters or fewer are best. #sponsoralovelyfriendlydoggie would not have worked so well for the Dogs Trust, because it’s difficult to remember and laborious to type.

Look for something memorable and relevant. It should clearly communicate your message, and if it’s memorable then so much the better. It doesn’t need to have your company name or charity name in it, but more importantly it needs to clearly get across the reason for this particular campaign. So include keywords relevant to the campaign. #SponsorADog is a good example.

Make it distinctive. It’s easy for hashtags to confuse people, and you don’t want to appear to be misleading anyone. It should not resemble any other hashtags too closely or be easily confused with them.

Capitalise the first letter of each word. You should always do this with hashtags. #sponsoradog would still work, but #SponsorADog is easier to read.

If your campaign is associated with anything current or trending, work it into the hashtag. Here’s an example: Mod Pizza had a promotion at the Breeze festival, so they stuck the two together and came up with #ModBreeze.

hashtag, photo cutout board, marketing, branding, hashtag, social media, twitter

Stick with the hashtag throughout your campaign. It’s the only way to grow social media interest because it’s a unique identifier that gradually gathers momentum.

When you have crafted the perfect hashtag, we’ll work it into the design of your photo cutout board and make it nice and big and clear so that it is easy to read on shared photos of the board. Photo sharing is the real power of photo cutout boards.
